How to manage short hair?

i am an african american female. my hair was damaged due to a lot of breakage in my hair so i decided i would cut the breakage off and just grow my hair back healthy. nor did i realize at the time that short hair is very hard to manage. my hair VERY THICK and COARSE. i have DRY SCALP and DRY HAIR. my scalp tends to itch a lot from time to time. my hair tends to be curly and wavy from time to time especially after shampooing/conditioning which is i do on a weekly. so if anyone could give me some tips on how to manage short hair as far as shampooing/conditioning, greasing/oiling my hair/scalp, wrapping my hair. what to do to my hair in the morning and what to do to it at night? i dont what to use heat because i am trying to grow it back so any information would be helpful.

use anti-frizz shampoo and conditioner from pantene. do weekly hot-oil treatment to control the dryness and itchiness. use hair serum or leave-in conditioner after washing ur hair. then make corn raws to keep ur hair tamed while ur growing it. this will make sure that the ends r not left open to dryness.

OK. Shampoo your hair every week and deep condition it at least 2 times a month. After your done.. wrap your hair and sit under the hooded dryer. Flat iron your hair and wrap it..tie it up with a silk scarf. That will help you keep from putting allot of heat on it. With short hair you may want to invest in some small hair clips. Just pin one side or your bangs back..

OK HERES THE DEAL.

start by going to get an oil treatment or the such at your local beauty salon, or getting a matrix. Both of these will calm your hair and they will keep your hair conditioned and fresh instead of dry and coarse. If these do not work (and even if they do I'd reccomend the following). Every night when you take your shower- USE CONDITIONER AND NO SHAMPOO. (I'd use pantene pro-v conditioner)Although this sound a little strange trust me it works. After about a week or so you'll be able to start using shampoo again- and baised on you itching factor I'd reccomend selsun blue (it helps not only dandruff).Next before you go to sleep, rub in some leave in conditioner. If your short hair knots up over night , you may want to put it in a small loose ponytail over night. If you feel you need more moisture, wrap it up in a towel before you go to sleep. Make sure that you conditioner and leave in conditioner do NOT read "especially for thin hair" or it will not work as well. After about three weeks you can stop doing this, if u did it constantly, and your hair should be naturally softer, and less dry. **If you are in the midst of the three weeks of doing so and u are going somewhere where ud prefer to have less dry hair- use hair moisturizer - NO HEAT**

hope these tips helped - good luck!!

make sure you are getting your hair proffessionally relaxed. I say this because professional products can make the diffrence. The relaxer when done w/ pro products always lasts longer. Try a botanical oil and a silkening product such as silk essentials by design essentials, put those on at night and wrapp the hair, it doesn't have to be in a complete circle, it could just be half and lay the back flat. Make sure you use a paddle brush with ball on the tips of the bristles. Always use a silk or satin scarf or satin pillow case, even if your'e just laying on the couch. When you have a good relaxer, you wont need heat. Make sure you use a wide tooth comb when styling to prevent breakage.

When you have short hair and have no idea how to handle it you need to find a stylist. The last thing you want to do is mess up your hair and have to cut it shorter. I at least recommend you see one once every 2 weeks. Important: Yes you want someone who knows what they are doing as far as styling, but its VERY important to find a stylist who is all about hair care too, so be careful of that. Also, she/he can tell you what will be best for your hair. What you can do to your hair as far as in between appointments is after you shampooing and conditioning, comb your hair straight down in a wrap like motion (use foam wrap and a little gel if needed for your back) and dry you hair under a hooded dryer. Therefore when you comb it out your hair is in a wrap like style. But a bone comb and experiment how you would like to style your hair while you wait for your next appointment. If you have a good cut, it should be much easier to style, even w/o curling it.

Is your hair natural? No perm, no chemicals? It sounds like it may be, I'm not sure. If you are natural, my I suggest the following routine. Was your hair every week or two with a conditioner base shampoo such as Garnier. After shampooing, melt some shea butter or coconut oil, then let it sit till it cools, but is still in liquid form, then pour over your head while over the sink or in the shower, massage lightly, but make sure your scalp is getting moisturized . Rinse hair with warm water until the majority of the shea/coconut oil is removed. Pat hair lightly to remove some of the water.

For a relaxer, never put the relaxer on the hair line first, that should always be done last! That's what causes some of us to get bald around the hair line. Shampoo hair once a week, over shampooing can cause dry brittle hair and scalp. You can deep condition every two weeks at home with a hot oil treatment. If you're gonna grease the scalp, do not use a product with petroleum jelly in it, it's too heavy and thick, and clogs the pores. You can grease the scalp until you dry scalp is under control. after that, I suggest using a natural oil such as jojobo oil to moisturize the hair and scalp, if you can't find that, find a oil at you local hair store that doesn't have mineral oil.

Make sure you wrap your head with a satin or silk scarf at night, or sleep on a satin or silk pillow, this helps stop breakage from the friction you usually experience when sleeping on a cotton pillow case, or wrapping you head with a bandanna at night.

Since you hair is short, it may be wise for you to got to a local hair salon to get you hair styled until your hair grows out to a legnth you can manage at home. I hope this helps a lil.

How to manage short hair?

Dont go out and buy anything expensive.

First: Purchase a mild Shampoo (To Clarify hair, I will explain why)

Second: TRIM your hair ends (May 1 1/2 to 2 inches)

Third: Here's the magic part: Mix olive oil, almond oil, coconut oil, avocado oil and a "little" honey, (honey u will have to heat so it can blend). Either leave on ALL day or all night (if all nite, DONT use honey)

Repeat this 3-4 times a week, your hair will grow like a weed %26amp; remove all frizz I promise,..... and it will be super shiny!!!!

The clairifying shampoo will help take the oil off your hair when u shower

You can find olive oil anywere, but the other oils you will have to buy at a local organics store, wholes foods or BJ's health corner.

GET A GOOD PERM AND LET IT BURN GIRL THAT MEANS ITS WORKING!

No grease please!! This will clog your pores and lead to more scalp problems. African-American hair needs moisture, moisture and more moisture to promote strong, healthy, shiny hair. Try to use natural oils like jojoba, olive, or coconut oil. Use deep conditioning and hot oil treatments to maintain a healthy scalp and hair. There is no magic formula for hair growth. It will take time and dedication. I also would recommend that you not put any chemicals in your hair until it's back to a more healthy state. This means lay off the relaxer until your ready. Trim your ends every 6 to 8 weeks. Only trim what's necessary or dust your ends. If you start following a good regimin you won't have to trim so much over time. Use a satin head scarf or pillowcase at night and if your hair is in a natural state, spritz it with water in the morning and apply Blended Beauty - Happy Nappy Styles to it and let it air dry. You can even try this at night and roller set it with a mixture of Happy Nappy and a setting lotion. I find that ORS and Blended Beauty work really good for curly, wavy and kinky hair.

One suggestion that I constantly give is to use Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil replenishing paks for deep conditioning. I'm not a spokesperson but It's one of the best I've ever used and It has worked wonders on my hair which used to suffer from breakage, split ends and thinning edges. Now my hair is full, thick, strong, soft to the touch and healthy.
