What are cute ways to wear short hair?

I have stick straight hair that is cut just below my chin. I have sideswept bangs that reach just at my eyebrows. I wear my hair down, in a messy bun, in a ponytail... but i can't think of other ways that don't include a headband! Ideas? Pictures?

You back comb a small chunk of hair at the crown of your hair and then smooth it out.

You can also try to curl the ends of your hair out.

Or try to part your hair on the side, at an angle on your forehead.

I want to get a perm for so long, as i had my hair cut short. I know it will suit, thats not the problem. Its that Ive heard the use a certain chemical to curl your hair permantly when ou get a perm, and Im worryed. I know your not suposed to dye you hair when your pregnant, but what about this perm thing??

I think the whole "dangerous hair chemicals" thing is a bit of an urban myth. The reason they say not to dye your hair has more to do with the fact that your hair might not respond to it the same way as if you weren't pregnant. Because of the hormone changes, your hair changes too. I would wait to get the perm simply because your hair might not take it and then you'll be stuck with a bad looking one.

I got my hair colored when I preggers. And my little baby girl is just fine. As far as perming, I don't know. There is a whole lot more chemicals in perm mixtures than in coloring. check with your dr.

well i got my hair highlighted when i was pregnant (still am) and im fine...the chemicals dont sit on your scalp though but everyone has told me that when you get a perm, it wont "take" to your hair as well...meaning it might not stay or come out right because of the pregnancy hormones...but i havent seen anyone get one so i cant say from personal experience.

Getting the odd perm or color will not harm you or the baby if you have not had adverse reactions to those chemicals in the past.

People are so worked up and warned that this or that is harmful when pregnant, soon pregnant women will not be aloud out of bed for fear of tripping! That warning is more for hose who work in salons, who are exposed to the chemicals all day everyday and the fumes they let off. Besides the perms today are not the perms of a decade ago. You can get matrix perms and relaxers that are no where near as damaging to the hair, the fumes are not even near other brands and they do not take as long.

I worked in a salon until I was almost 30 weeks and I had a perm done and I had colors done, I also done them to others while I was pregnant. My child turned out perfectly fine. My other friends who were pregnant in the same salon had done the same thing and they all had healthy little baby's as well.

Do not expect your perm to come out the same way as it did when you were not pregnant though, many people have changes in the way a perm turns out while pregnant and after they have the baby, it just do not go back for some. And that is ok, your stylist should be able to adjust and change it for you. Any good stylist will not just start wrapping your hair and squirtingon chemicals without checking out your hair and taking a bit of info from you anyways. I (and most other stylist) always treat each client getting a perm or color as if they never had one from me before, I check out the hair each adn every time I change formulas and products to suit. more than just pregnancy changes the hair. Your hair today is not going to be the same hair as the next time you get it permed or colored.

...Why are there so many girls on this site that are anti-short-hair??? I happen to have an adorable pixie cut and it looks awesome on me! I get so many compliments every day. When my hair was long I looked like everyone else.

The key to having short hair is having the right face. If you've got very feminine and pretty features there's a good chance you'll look better with short hair than with long. I like long hair--it's very pretty, don't get me wrong. Some girls need it. Some girls don't. If you've got the face and the confidence to pull off short hair--go for it!

I keep my hair short when I can. It's easier to maintain and you use less shampoo and conditioner. Also, I look better in short hair than long hair. I can't be with a man who's hair is longer then mine! The key is to not have it cut too short where you might be mistaken as a man.

I chopped all of my hair of about two years ago, and it keeps getting shorter, well in the back. I love keeping the front down to my jawline and the back boy-short. This way my long neck looks longer and prettier. ^.^

And I can go punk if I want to or office-chic, or even sporty and I don't have my old scruffy ponytail to deal with.

Okay, so over the past few weeks I've been thinking of getting my hair cut short at the back. Should i get layers in my hair?

I got my hair cut short in a bob 6ish weeks ago, its just sits under my chin. I had layers before when my hair was medium length, but all the layers were cut out when it became short.

So I don't know if I want to get layers again or not... I have a side fringe that looks horrible and i have dark brown hair. Just say if i need to give more info. By the way, Im trying to grow my hair back to its original length even a tad longer.

My hair stinks!?

I know i posted an answer like this a few months ago, but i need help. I was my hair daily - every single morning! When I wash it and get out of the shower my hair stinks BAD. It is a smell that I can not describe. I dry my hair and i cant really smell it then. I then straighten my hair with my hair straightner and when the heat hits my hiar it stinks again! When i take a shower at night and my hiar gets the least little bit wet it stinks so bad that i have to pull it back! When i lay on my pillow and my hiar is wet my pillow starts to smell and it makes me natious! i have tried blow drying my hiar at night if it gets a little wet but that doesnt help! I have tried numerous shampoos and conditioners and have changed all of my hair products with no luck! I had longer hair when i first posted this a few months ago when i was having this prob! I recently had my hair cut short and i still have this problem. HELP!

do you have sulfur water? I work with a guy who said he had sulfur water and he would stink like rotten eggs out of the shower. If could be your shampoo too. Have you tried switching brands? I think if you can't figure it out, go to a hair salon and ask them what's up with that. Their job is hair and if it's a product, they'll know which one it is. I know if you use a shampoo for psoriasis or dandruff, it stinks for hours.

Maybe talk to your doctor the next time you have to go in. It could be a chemical thing going on in your body. If that all checks out ok it might be your water. I used to live in an area that used well water and boy it smelled! It made my hair, laundry, and everything else smell really bad. Try getting a water purifier and rinse your hair (several times) with the pure water after you wash it.

It sounds as though it definitely is your scalp. The fact that you can't exactly describe how it smells is a big clue.

The scalp is where we make a substance called sebum - it's the thing that gives us our "scent" like the scents that animals have. The difference is that we can't normlly smell it, as our noses aren't powerful enough, and we don't produce enough sebum for it to register.

What you're experiencing could be an excess of sebum. Everytime we wash our hair, we stimulate the sebacious gland (where the sebum is produced), while at the same time, stripping the sebum that's in our hair, and forcing our scalp to make more and more (yes, shampoo is technically bad for your scalp). Try washing your hair every other day (if that's possible).

Excess heat can excite the sebacious gland, so you should lay off using the straightener for a while, and the blow-drying, too.

I also know that hormonal changes and stress can cause too much sebum to be released through the pores of the skin (which causes acne) - may I ask how old you are? It may be that you're going through a hormonal change at the moment.

And stress is a factor, too, so if you're stressed at the moment, it's probably not doing you any good!

But if it persists, and is making you unhappy, you should see your doctor.

When you shampoo your hair shampoo it with hot water and repeat. Then when you condition rinse with cold cold water. When you get out try using a silk infusion such as the silk infusion by Chi or biosilk. this can be applied to wet and dry hair. Then blow dry your hair make sure that you don't put the blowdryer to close to your hair so it won't get damaged. Now I have a question for you what do you use to straighten your hair? That could be the problem. Try using a Chi, and remember ALWAYS dry your hair before straighting it. And if you wash your hair before you go to sleep completely either let it dry or dry it. When your hair is wet don't tie it back because then it won't dry and that will cause it to stink. If your head smells as bad as you say you might need to take some vitamins and see if it goes away. If not I suggest you see a doctor. You might have an internal infection that you don't know about that is being released by the oils in your head.

Until i was about 12 my hair was a brown colour, over the next few years the gradually changed to a lighter blonde... but then as i grew older my "stubble" sideburns and my fringe on my hair has become blonde. I had my hair cut short but only these areas grew back blonde. My eyebrows have now started to turn a ginger colour as have parts of my hair.

My two brothers have ginger hair and both my parents have brown hair (my grandad is the only person in our family i know with ginger hair)

When i was a kid my hair was very light brown, by the time i was about 10 it had turned dark brown. These days the grey stuff is coming through. (the gal who cuts it calls it 'ash blonde'- some people will say anything to get a tip).

No, there is no way to stop it unfortuantely, it's your ginger genes coming through, also happens as people get older - I know you are only 17 but my hubby started receding at 17. Just gotta learn to accept it, or colour your hair, kepp your stubble shaved and ask your hair stylist to trim your eyebrows as keeping them neat instead of bushy will make them less noticable.

I work at a beauty store (AKA sell extrantions and things for a living lol)

It depends on how short your hair is. You could get short extentions, like 8 - 10 inches and it probably wouldnt look too fake. What you have to do is part your hair around the back of your head close to your ears (does that make sense?) and clip the extentions in. Or you could glue them, but thats a little more tricky. If you cant find the short ones with clips you can easily sew the clips on the extentions. That way you can take them out when you sleep and shower!

But make sure you get human hair!! If its fake it wont last long at all. But if its real, human hair you can curl it, wash it, use a flat iron, even color them if they dont match perfectly!!

I suggest NOT getting the jessica simpson ones, there different for some reason and unless you get the human hair ones (around $500) they wont even last a month. But dont worry, there not all that much money. The short ones at my store are only $10 and there human hair.

Okay, it depends on how much you want to spend. But, to keep it simple I use a mousse that has the words moisturizing on its container. I have found that anything with the words for curly hair leaves it crispy and not natural at all. Bio silk, the leave on clear liquid only is also a great thing to use before you put mousse in and style it. Look at Penny's for when the have the pack on sale, but do not use their gel as it flakes. You can usually save about ten dollars buying it like that. This also comes from the recommendation of my hairstylist, and he is great with curly hair. Good Luck!

...Why are there so many girls on this site that are anti-short-hair??? I happen to have an adorable pixie cut and it looks awesome on me! I get so many compliments every day. When my hair was long I looked like everyone else.

The key to having short hair is having the right face. If you've got very feminine and pretty features there's a good chance you'll look better with short hair than with long. I like long hair--it's very pretty, don't get me wrong. Some girls need it. Some girls don't. If you've got the face and the confidence to pull off short hair--go for it!

I keep my hair short when I can. It's easier to maintain and you use less shampoo and conditioner. Also, I look better in short hair than long hair. I can't be with a man who's hair is longer then mine! The key is to not have it cut too short where you might be mistaken as a man.

I chopped all of my hair of about two years ago, and it keeps getting shorter, well in the back. I love keeping the front down to my jawline and the back boy-short. This way my long neck looks longer and prettier. ^.^

And I can go punk if I want to or office-chic, or even sporty and I don't have my old scruffy ponytail to deal with.

I have VERY curly hair. It is also very dry and frizzy. People have told me to condition. I condition it more than anyone else conditions their hair. I use a regular conditioner, then use a "super" conditioner which I leave on for at least 3 minutes. Then I put in a spray leave in conditioner. It is still the same. I have always had long hair because the weight of it (it is also very thick) helps with the curls somewhat. I have thought of having my hair cut short and straightened. Should I do this? Or will I end up with straight frizzy hair? My stylist can straighten it with a flat iron but I'm not able to do that at home because of the length. Should I straighten it or just leave it curly and get it cut short anyway. I am getting older now (almost 36) and I'm tired of long hair. Please help.

Well because you said you were tired of long hair I would cut some of it. But judging by what you said about putting all the conditioner in it that can be drying to your hair to.

Try not washing it everyday unless you get too dirty as this can clog pores. Wash every other day, using a moisturizing shampoo...like sleek by matrix or logics conditioning shampoo. Only use deep conditioners no more than once a week followed by a clarifying shampoo. On the days you must get your hair wet for shower purposes,,,,do not wash it use conditioner only in it. So you can style it with out the dread lock look...lol....Watch your styling products with alcohol they can be very drying. Use the leave it only to remove tangles and in severe weather hot or cold for protection...Good Luck!

Maybe you should think about a relaxer. This chemical would permanently straighten your hair and you would be able to get it cut shorter. I just had my hair straightened. My hair is really wavy, and coarse. But after my second go at the chemical straightening, it is in pretty good shape. I still have to use the flat iron, but the results are worth it. The first time I had it straightened (2 weeks ago) with the Paul Mitchell treatment it didn't take. But then I went back and tried another treatment. One used for previously treated hair ( hair color, perm, etc...) and that one worked. You might want to look into having it done, but be sure you have a good hair dresser who has experience with doing this treatment.

I think your hair is dry because its so long and its very old hair that you've had for a long time. A fresh short cut may just be what you need. i would say no to cutting it short and straightening it.....ask you stylist to remove some of the bulk in your hait by either personilizing your hair cut or going threw to find the bulky area's and removing some of that weight for you....that will help on the weight and density of you hair and make it slightly easier to manage.....there are some really good straightners out there.....i would just be afraid for you that you would chemically alter your hair and then regret it in the long run and then you still have up keep when you get the regrowth.....i hope some of this can help you

Personally , I wont go with chemical solutions on my hair ever again. My hair was in really nice shape until I permed it last fall. I would suggest using a flat iron and not using chemical solutions on it.

If you go for the relaxer try the one for childrens it is safer - however, it can still make your hair thinner.

as far as the flat iron use a ceramic one, and get one that will not pull out your hair. They break your hair alot.

Relaxers are so bad for your hair, they dry it out SO bad and with short hair...I don't think it's a good idea b/c if it messes it up then you don't have much hair to cut off...I HIGHLY reccomend the CHI straightener...It is AWESOME! I recently got one and have super thick curly hair, prior to my CHI I had a $30 straightener from Target and it would take me 70 minutes to make my hair straight, with my CHI, it takes about 15-20 minutes and it stays straight until I wash it...it's great and it doesn't dry out my hair. I get SO many compliments when I wear it like that now when before I didn't! :) Hope this helps! Oh, and the CHI is pricey but you can find one on ebay a little cheaper but it SO worth the $$, it also has a lifetime warranty on it so it will be the last one you ever buy too! Have a good one!

who cut your hair?? they should be shot. i dont quite understand your hair cut. long on top and short underneth. i think you should go to a different salon, they may be able to fix it, however they may need to cut is again, to even out the layers, you may end up with a "meg ryan" hair cut. if you do let them cut you hair again, you should try "fizz eaze" to style it.

I got my hair cut short in a bob 6ish weeks ago, its just sits under my chin. I had layers before when my hair was medium length, but all the layers were cut out when it became short.

So I don't know if I want to get layers again or not... I have a side fringe that looks horrible and i have dark brown hair. Just say if i need to give more info. By the way, Im trying to grow my hair back to its original length even a tad longer.

Alright, i'm at this crazy crossroads major decision making time in my life!

i really really really want to cut my hair into kind of a pixie cut. right now it's around chin-length, maybe a little bit longer..

I had really long hair for awhile and it was really pretty, and i cut it and everyone said it looked better shorter..

but like, I don't know, this is incredibly stupid but i had much better luck with guys when it was long. i've heard that mostly guys prefer longer hair on girls, and i know it has to do with personal preference, but at my age guys generally like one type of girl, and that's not the kind i particularly want to be?

so, should i just go ahead and cut it, or grow it back out?

I think it would depend on the potential consequences of each decision. I've always had long hair. However, I find that with shorter hair I look a little older. As for work, this is something I would want. In my day-to-day life, however, I would rather it be long. As for guys, I've found that longer hair is probably more appealing on me. But like I said, my job and career are important to me at this point and I would definitely consider cutting it short for that reason.

You should also consider how fast your hair grows. My hair grows EXTREMELY fast and therefore when I cut it short, it's relatively inconsequential because it will grow back to a longer length pretty quickly.

Also keep in mind that shorter hair usually requires a lot more upkeep--more frequent haircuts and more time in the morning to make it look nice. As a side note, I'm a firm believer that messy morning hair is almost always more attractive with longer hair.

I like it long and short, i know that dosn't help much but i had long hair for phew for years and when i cut it i was amazed at how much quicker it is to dry/straighten and how much lower maintenance it is ;)

If you want it short i say go for it screw other people.

I just think women generally look better with long hair assuming that it is healthy and not full of split ends. My Mom wants me to cut my hair in a "bob" kinda like Paris Hilton (without her extensions) but I want to keep it long. She says it looks slutty and trashy! Long hair with a little bit of character to it. If you've had it straight for too long, try making it wavy/perm-like. If you've had it curly for too long, make it straight. It's all about change ... and as for makeup, definitely not too much. Bring out your eyes, have a beaming smile and just have a don't care attitude. And with this, dress in a way that shows a little bit of your midriff when you stretch a little (like reaching for a jar or bending down or something). Wear good perfume. If I see this is a girl, I just to reach out and kiss her. I'm getting aroused now :)

Fake tans are THE worst and make any female look much less attractive, no matter what the tanning salons tell you. All they do is scream "NOTICE ME" and tell guys that you are, well...insecure.

I would encourage you to go to a hair salon and look at their hairstyle books...and discuss the ones you like with a hair dresser.

I personally prefer long hair on women however some are very attractive with short hair. If you can tan in a booth, a little color won't hurt but I have seen older women who tan in booths all the time and they look about ten years older than they really are. Make sure you do a little research on tanning and sunbathing before jumping into something that might damage your skin in the future.

I think long hair is more attractive and believe it gives some insight as to the women, like she takes the time and effort to look good and is not lazy. I have always considered short hair a sign of laziness. I like natural no make up, and consider women with very white skin to be voluptuous. This is all just opinion and taste though, I have always catagorized women 2 way's a women that dresses for women and a women that dresses for men. Women that dress for women always call women that dress for men slutty which is not true, and usualy comes from women that have no desire to draw attention to themselves and forget how they use to dress and wear there hair. Not saying anything against your mom just a observation.

I think you should keep your hair short. Personally, I think long hair makes men look really messy, like they're too lazy to keep their hair in control. Short hair would be great. Maybe use some gel to spike it up a little. Eventhough people are saying short, your hair shouldn't be less than 1 cm, I don't think that won't look too flattering either. I need some advice about my hair. My hairl is kinky curly thick frizzy and a rats nest. The only way it looks nice and not ratty is if I use a hair stratghtoner and I want to find a way for my hair so it looks decent and I dont have to use a hair straghtoner and also with out geting my hair cut short because my dad will throw a fit b/c he wants me to have long hair and I dont want it cut ether. My hair had always been that way even before I started useing a hair straghtener. I also still brush it and pick it. Ive also tried everything from gel to mose to condioner to serum. Please help I want to wear my hair down without useing the Hair Straghtoner.

This might sound scary but you need to have your hair thinned. Don't worry it will still look thick but it will take out the bulk and the frizziness.

Go to a professional hair salon and get a curling lotion, let it air dry and only finger comb it. The lotion will weight your hair down so that the the curls will be more uniform. Make sure you go to a good salon, it may cost more but it will be worth it. If you go to anyone else you are taking a greater risk.

a paddle brush is a must. flip your hair upside down as you dry it...then brush your ends over and over until it is as smooth as you want it to be all day long. spritz some hairspray and use wax or serum to lay your flyaways down. it sounds simple, but the less product in your hair - the best. Jessica Simpson goes by that rule - she has great hair.

Is your hair all one length? If you get layers it will take some of the thickness out and help add demension to your hair. also use a deep conditioner at least once a week. Look for different hair products that are made for kinky curly hair. it took me forever to find some for wavy hair here is what i use it could help:

Aussie Root Clenser + Tip Mender Shampoo and Conditioner

Aussie 3 Minute merical (deep conditioner)

Sunsilk leave in conditioner (its in a pink bottle)

Tresemme Mouse ( not sure if thats how u spell the brand but and curl/wave enhancing mouse should work)

Curl Enhancing Gel (not sure what brand it is but its blue)

you can try de-frizz shampoo from sunsilk. ive never used it before, but i use the volumizing shampoo from sunsilk and it works well. you can also try teh straightening shampoo from sunsilk.

I went tonight to get my hair cut short (had pic in hand to show HOW i wanted it, well that's not what I got) I do not know what to do with my hair, how to style it nothing. I am VERY hair challenged, only thing I am good at is ponytails.Here's what I am up against. OK the hair closest to my neck is the shortest at about 2in. the top is about 4in. (it hits the top of my cheek bone) But the change in length is not gradual it goes from being about 2in all the way to top of my head and theres a 4in. layer sitting on top of it. She also gave me "side swept" bangs that are to short to do them side swept and too long to do straight across forehead. My hair is SUPER EXTREMELY thick. (i cant stress that enough) I think it would be cute if I could have the back tossled kinda flipped out and teh top layer flat ironed, I can't figure out how to do that (flip) and when I tried flat ironing the whole thing since top too short it looks HORRIBLE. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me. Holidays coming :-((

Flipping out with a straightener should work no matter the length at the top. Just take it layer by layer starting with the longest. Put the rest up into a half pony so you can easily access it, then let a little down and do that, then a little more, and so on. If the straightener isn't working out for you buy some type of styling wax (I suggest garner fructis) and take piece by piece and mold it the way you want the hair to go. Take the ends and pull them outward, take the top layer and pull it straight down. Remember, it will take practice. Don't get discouraged if it doesn't work at first. PRACTICE IS KEY. not pulling it in the shower, but massaging your scalp to stimulate the hair follicles. Also pick up some vitamins especially formulated for hair from a local health food store or GNC store. Your hair doesn't grow faster if you cut it, that's a myth. However, I have noticed that if I work out and do a lot of physical things, my hair grows faster!

dont pull on it in the shower, that wont do anything but pull hair out. You should take a multi vitamin!! They also make vitamins just for the hair, skin and nails. Take biotin that is great for making hair and nails grow and silica makes it strong. You should get your hair trimmed every 6-8 weeks to keep away split ends. You can also use apple cider vinegar and sage tea as a rinse in your hair to help it grow.

if you have split ends then you will need your ends trimmed for your hair to grow. if that's not the case then try to keep your hair moisturized and not dry. you may also want to consider going to a hair salon and keeping it done on a regular basis.
