Help! What can I do with my drabby short/medium shaggy hair?

I had a very short haircut a while back and I'm always used to long hair. Now that it's growing (slooooowly), I need some ideas on what to do with my shoulder length shaggy-cut hair (or you can say it's layered all over). I would like to look a little bit stylish....at least. Does anyone have any idea what I should do other than putting my hair in a ponytail all the time (like in the avatar)?

my hair is like yours and in the morning, when i wake up, i don't brush it or anything and i just put a headband on. I think it looks very good. Like all flippy everywhere and curly in other places and sticky-outy and bed-heady. the headband just adds as decoration and also as a gender-defining aid.

FOR GET THE LAYERED HAIR!! it looks good on NO ONE!! GO get a good BOB!! then let it grow.... Put up a very high ponytail,, in kinda PUFF on top and wisp out lots of tendrils...... A bob will grow out into something you can have styled.... IF any hair dresser even sez, the word.... LAYERED!!!! RUN!!! means they can NOT CUT HAIR!!!! they just CHOP it up

You said it is shoulder length.....You can put it into wavy tendrils, but not too much hairspray or stiff curls more like flowy waves. Curl the tips a bit and put some wax or pomade throughout to make it piecey. I like the second suggestion because this I think would look really sexy....well I like it when my hairstylist puts some in my hair....or you can always make it stick straight with some volume around the crown....

you can blow-dry the ends out and get a cute rocker-type look. i think that i have the same type of hair length as you, so i usually experiment with a curling iron or a hair straightener. you can do some spiral curls on some of your strands and that'll look good. or you can go for curls all over, or completely straighten your hair stick-straight (that will actually make your hair look longer) and it'll look more glamorous.
